PROFESSIONAL PROFILE

Hossein Keshavarz after completion of his high school studies, immigrated to USA in 1979 and took residence in Washington DC metropolitan area to pursue his higher education in the field of engineering. He completed his studies by earning B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and Master’s degree in Engineering Project Management that is his current profession.

Right after completion of B.S. degree, he worked for a number of years in Consulting Engineering Firms in various engineering disciplines. Then he found a position at the UMD- Facilities Management (FM) and College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (AGNR) as an Engineer and Assistant Director since 1990- present. His job responsibilities includes:

  • Provide construction management services and engineering expertise for on-campus and/or off-campus facilities to represent the interests of the customers during planning, programming, design and construction processes
  • Implementation of design, construction, maintenance, repair and operation of the facilities, utilities and associated equipment required to support all the agricultural research activities.
  • Serve as a principle engineering manager for selected projects
  • Provide administration and oversight to the on-campus projects involving improvements and renovation including engineering design and related disciplines
  • Work independently with the University main Campus Facilities Management (FM) and have a direct communication & negotiation regarding the questionable project cost estimate provided by FM on various Campus projects concerning the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (AGNR) and advice on economical approaches/solutions to accomplish the AGNR projects while maintaining the same quality of work and on time completion
  • Schedule meeting as necessary with Department Chairs or their designee including the contractors, equipment vendors to review the scope of work and resolve project issues/obstacles occurring during the projects progress
  • Prepare regular briefings to the Department Chairs regarding the project scope, coordination, funding, cost estimate, procurement process, value engineering, change orders and other related issues to ensure timely service is provided
  • Review and comments on overall engineering drawings and specifications including HVAC system for compliance with the Campus standards, local governing codes &regulations, where qualification warrant, the state and federal policies/procedures
  • Attend progress meeting with FM and their contractors’ representative to solve problems that develop during the construction to insure a completion of a quality product, on schedule and within the budget
  • In the Director’s absence, serve in the capacity of the Director and provide concise and timely status report to the Associate Dean and the unit directors• Attend the University Facilities Advisory Committee (FAC) meetings to present AGNR’s projects which requiring the FAC review and recommendations to Facility Council’s for monetary support
